Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust - Coast Path Fund

Opening Horizons for Visitors

The stunning views of Torbay have captured the hearts of visitors since the 1700s, and earned it the name “Queen of the Riviera”.  Now known as the English Riviera the area attracts millions of visitors who still enjoy those views.  Many of the area’s most stunning viewpoints are to be found on the resort’s coastal paths.

The Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust manages 22 miles of the South West Coast Path as it winds its way around the beaches and headlands of the resort from Maidencombe in the north of the Bay to Sharkham Point on the southern tip.  The path is by far one of the best ways to discover the bay’s history, geology and wildlife whilst appreciating the beaches, rocks and far-reaching coastal views – stunning in both winter and summer.

Maintaining remote pathways, and particularly those that are well used by visitors, can be expensive and challenging. Over time paths become eroded and stunning viewpoints can be obscured by overgrown foliage and encroaching woodland.  The Trust is inviting donations to re-create the Victorian vistas that existed 150 years ago when Torbay was first becoming a tourism resort and our forefathers laid out the coastal walks and gardens.  The project will also pay for the restoration of the seats in these coastal locations so that people can stop and admire the glorious views of Tor Bay.

The Torbay Coast and Countryside is a registered charity that depends on the support of the local community and visitors.  Other Trust projects that you can support include the educational activities at the Seashore Centre and the development of a new visitor centre at Berry Head National Nature Reserve.
