Stuartline Cruises
Discover the beauty and wildlife of the Devon coast
Stuartline Cruises are based in Exmouth at the mouth of the stunningly beautiful Exe Estuary and at the start of the Jurassic Coast, the UK’s only natural UNESCO World Heritage Site.Running a range of boat trips for different interests and along different routes, Stuartline knows that its customers are always impressed by the beautiful coastline and the fantastic wildlife that the estuary and bay support. Bird watching cruises are a speciality and these include full commentary from an ornithologist on the species, habitat and behaviours of the thousands of birds on the Exe Estuary and East Devon Coast.
The Jurassic Coast cliffs contain 185 million years of history of the Earth’s development along their 95-mile length, recording the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. The changing geology along this amazing coastline charts the story of earth from ancient deserts to tropical seas. Stuartline’s Jurassic Coast cruises give a full commentary and are undoubtedly the best way to view this coast.
Stuartline collects money from visitors for both the Devon Wildlife Trust and the Exe Estuary Forum. Helen Newton of Stuartline reports, “Over the years we have raised £16,000 for the Devon Wildlife Trust from our wildlife cruise and have recently started working to raise money for the Exe Estuary. In the first few months of 2009 we have raised over £1,000 on our bird watching cruises alone.
The money is all raised via collection boxes on the boats but the huge sums raised are partly down to the proactive approach, passengers are invited to donate as they disembark, and partly due to the enthusiastic commitment of the crews.
Helen continues, “We think it is important for people to be able to give donations to support the continuation for something they have enjoyed and would like to see preserved. We are hoping that some of the money for the Exe Estuary will be for a Bird Hide. In the current climate people want to know exactly where their money is going and that it goes to something worthwhile as opposed to a general 'pot' of money. If their money means they can enjoy something in the future all the better.”
