Paignton Zoo Environmental Park
Paignton Zoo attracts around half a million visitors every year and also runs a sister park in Torquay, Living Coasts, and Newquay Zoo in Cornwall. The Zoo is a registered conservation and education charity and all of its work revolves around the need to protect endangered plants, animals and habitats across the globe.• Conservation of protected sites at Slapton Ley, Primley Park and Clennon Gorge
• Common Dormouse breeding and reintroduction programme
• Running holding centres for Water Voles and Cirl Bunting as preparation for release into the wild
• A range of field conservation and education programmes in Zimbabwe, Kenya, Nigeria Malawi, Tanzania and Botswana
Visitors pay an entrance fee but they are also given the opportunity to make a further donation to the Zoo. This enables the Zoo to treat their total entry fee as a donation and therefore claim gift-aid tax back, adding a further 28p in the pound to those donations. In 2008 these gift-aid donations helped to fund the Zoo’s new Crocodile Swamp.
Visitors can also donate online and adopt plants and animals. The Zoo runs a conservation club for local businesses who wish to support the Zoo’s charitable events and activities.
